In a traditional three act structure to a short film, it's typical that we meet the main characters, and are introduced to the inciting incident or conflict in the first half of the film. In the short film, Slap, the protagonist, Connor, his friend Archie and his girlfriend Lola are all introduced in the opening scene, as their close relationship is established in one short scene of them talking. Their most important character traits are shown here as this is when we find out that Archie is bisexual, Lola acts unintentionally homophobic in some of the references she makes towards Archie's sexuality, and Connor's boxing hobby as well as his feminine personality is established as we first meet him hiding from his dad wearing makeup before getting ready for Boxing training with his, presumably unsupportive, father.   Characters fight on a skateboard? Action / comedy Teenagers - stunts - British looking buildings - juxtaposition between teenage activities with old buildings.  Ideas for short film 1. The arrival lighting changes when she starts thinking about having the baby train sound effects? Ooh double meaning. Arrival of the baby, and the arrival of the baby, or the arrival of the decision, arrival of the drink she ordered.  drama - character driven -  abortion implication - no morality is shown Narrative is an internal monologue Film is dark and cold - ending is warmer  Decaf represents having the baby, caffeine represents not having it. The Fly over the top title card  you cant see the fly, sound effect implies it  fly saves the day  juxtaposition of screaming in the car and the screaming in the bank iconography - keychain has rabbits foot = good luck. He broke a mirror = bad luck. Theme of luck.  slapstick comedy is an easier way of comedy than dialogue
