Slap
Characters: Connor / Lola / Archie
-Handheld camera makes scenes chaotic.
-Short set up - shows dynamic with friends in a short scene, but it tells you everything you need to know.
-cracked mirror - his façade is being broken. Boxing isn't him. His father is an average tough guy - boxing coach. Connor is scared of him and his masculinity.
-Suggestion that the father might not be accepting. No mention of the mother.
-Lola is a stereotype of misinformed bigotry - scared of difference - she looks at everyone else's reactions before she reacts - worried about how she will look.
-Everyone is a product of their exclusive environment.
-The short might be called Slap, because it's more feminine than a punch.
-Connor's sexuality and gender identity is intentionally ambiguous. The film is about self expression which is more relatable to all viewers. "Makes me feel alright / free" is the only line where Connor talks about why he dresses femininely.
-Ending - hypermasculinity. Same music as laughing scenes, showing that he is projecting the anger he got from that moment. More lost than where he was at the start, same camera angle and shot type as the mirror scene, except now he's not expressing his feminine side, and is now expressing a more intense masculine side after being rejected.
